  Jim Smith – Founder and President

For more than 25 years, Jim Smith has led The Mesa Group in providing business process solutions and enterprise consulting services to small and mid-sized companies in the distribution, manufacturing, and retail industries throughout the America’s. Mesa is known for its long-standing relationships, critical strategic partnerships, and technical expertise in implementing distribution technology and business improvement processes for companies to increase their productivity, operations, and revenue.

Jim proudly served as an Army officer in the Vietnam War. Afterwards he began his career with IBM, where he received the prestigious Golden Circle Award, given to employees for exemplary performance who contribute to IBM’s revenue and profit objectives through outstanding sales and customer leadership. After IBM, he joined ADP and was quickly recognized and promoted to Vice President. In 1983, Mr. Smith left ADP and co-founded Good Software, a developer and distributor of PC software, which he took public. In 1995, he started The Mesa Group. Jim frequently presents at industry conferences and seminars. Throughout his career, he has maintained that a man’s handshake is his word, and his reputation speaks for itself.

Jim enjoys spending time with his wife (Rita), children, and grandchildren as well as a good wine!

  Carolyn Gauthier – Managing Partner

Carolyn Gauthier joined The Mesa Group in 2014 as a Consultant, facilitating the implementation and support of business process improvement solutions to enhance clients’ business functionality and overall performance while maintaining a high degree of client satisfaction. In 2017, she became a managing partner with The Mesa Group. She continues to be an integral partner in implementing distribution solutions in the manufacturing, distribution, and retail industries, analyzing and defining business requirements, processes, and objectives to scope the project and delivery. 

She is an accomplished IT professional with a broad knowledge of enterprise software solutions and project management. She has proven experience in successfully implementing process improvements and technology strategies to achieve desired results. 

Carolyn enjoys spending time outdoors and her favorite watching the Boston Red Sox with her husband. 

Noreen Doughty – Manager, Business Consulting Resources

Noreen Doughty joined The Mesa Group in 2011. She brings more than 25 years of experience implementing and supporting custom and package IT applications to her Mesa role as Manager, Business Consulting Resources. She offers comprehensive knowledge and expertise in handling a wide spectrum of tasks related to Business Analysis activities and implementing process improvement measures.  An expert in analyzing business processes, she identifies problems and implements solutions to increase productivity and efficiencies in business operations. 

Experienced in leading teams that deliver breakthrough results for small to mid-sized companies in the manufacturing and distribution industries, Noreen’s specialties include business planning, customer service, and training.  She is a team player, with a positive attitude and a high commitment to success.

Noreen enjoys hiking to the top of a mountain or kayaking in a quiet body of water in her free time. She also enjoys sewing, scrap-booking and furniture refurbishing.

Gary Wood – Manager of Technical Resources

Gary Wood began his career with The Mesa Group in 1999. As Manager of Technical Resources, he supervises Mesa’s clients’ requirements, including technical support, troubleshooting issues and performing systems, and analysis and implementation of distribution technologies. 

One day he may be troubleshooting a client issue on their system. The next moment, he could be analyzing something that another Mesa employee will develop and implement. 

When Gary isn’t in the office or at a client site, he enjoys playing classic arcade games and pinball machines. He collects, restores, and plays these classics from the ’80s.
